Don't you only need it in a 69 and 70 or if you have a fuel cell in trunk? Ford put the tank under the car for a reason after 70.
If you have the battery in trunk that's not in a sealed box or if you have a fuel cell, or a nitrous bottle without a blow down tube you need a firewall between passenger compartment and trunk.
A good video explaining all the things that can be done to make these cars handle better. The example is a Mustang but they all, including the divider, apply to the Maverick. I wonder if the divider they sell will fit the Maverick too Micah
Larry, I think there are multiple reasons for having one. The heavy steel pieces provide support and reduce body flex under hard cornering. I see them on a lot of road race and auto cross Mustangs. I simply want one to provide a better sound barrier between the trunk and passenger compartment. A partition made out of Masonite with phatmat on one side would serve that purpose.
Exactly right. The more power and bigger the tires for going around corners.. the more important it becomes from a rigidity standpoint. Not to mention some racing classes mandate their use for passenger compartment fire protection. As for the Masonite?.. yep.. would only be useful for sound and fire protection since it's rather brittle and would crack at the most stressed fastening points once you start really twisting the body around too much. Not that Larry cares about this aspect.. but doubtful that many, if any, racing sanctioning bodies would allow its use either.
Im alive. These are still available. Life has been crazy. I would just need to make a phone call to get some punched out.
Scott told me in an email that he is not aware of any of his rear seat trunk shields ever having been used in conjunction with a seat. He designed them specifically for race cars using trunk mounted fuel cells. That is not to say it won't work, but he has not had any feedback from anyone who has tried.
