I'm tired of my fuel gauge not working. My tank has been replaced prior to me owning it. It was a new tank installed in 09 and I'm not sure how many gallon it is. Is there any numbers or any way to figure out what tank I have. The sender has the same 2 wire plug. I have current to the plug, 5v. Maybe the ball fell off. I need tank size if I should need a new sender. Help is appreciated.
post a picture. what is wrong with your gauge? is it not reading correctly, or has it stopped working altogether?
Run it empty on gas then fill it up if it is empty and it takes 16 gallons you have a 16 gallon tank if it takes 19 gallons you have a 19 gallon tank
The '73 Maverick came with a 15 gallon tank. All new tanks are the later-model, 19 gallon option. Your sending unit can be tweaked to work with the 19 gallon tank. The problem you are having may be with the gauge itself.
Running it out of is is not a great idea, 1) I have replaced 2 fuel filters since I bought and 2), I don't drive it enough to use 15 or 19 gallons of fuel, garbage ethanol gas would go bad first. I know, I could add an additive to preserve it and do already. Could I ground the sender wire, how would the gauge needle react?
You can ground the wire at the tank to see if gauge and cvr ( cluster voltage regulator ) is working . When grounding wire at tank your gauge should from empty all the way to full in pulses this tell you the circuit is working as design.
