    Hello,
I have a '71 Mav. I'm in the process of gluing cracks in the fiberboard
door panel (driver's side)--a long awaited mini-project. The metal retaining
clips caused the cracks in the fiberboard, so I don't want to use them again.
I've looked up Dorman fasteners, but I'm having a hard time finding the
    right ones--any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Bye,
    Renton5
    Daniel

This is what I plan on using.
3M Velcro Dual Lock Heavy Duty
Once secured, simply press the two pieces of dual lock together and their mushroom-shaped plastic stems interlock with an audible snap to make a fastening which is stronger than Velcro.

The only issue I see with done that way is the distance the panel will stick out from the door. I like the idea though Velcro is some tough stuff

They have it at Home Depot take a look and there is recessed areas that may pull in panel more that the pin locations.

dgodding, Thank you! I wasn't aware of that product, I'll check it out! I realized a plastic fastener won't work because the metal clip goes further in than the plastic, so the panel wouldn't fit right. Somebody ought to invent an off-set plastic clip--oops, if any of you invent it, I get 35%---HA!

The metal clips work just fine when installed correctly. I have them if you need them.

Craig, sometimes the board is so dry rotted and cannot withstand the install or removal of the panel and need alt door panel attachment. I am building new ones and will NOT drill/carve slots. It was a bad design by all auto mfg of the era. Would have been better to have screws than the clips that are spring loaded and rust together... JMHO.

Any mustang parts house sells the door panel clips new, they even come with the little piece of weather seal attached.
