Well I've had my eye on this car for a couple of years now. It was in the junkyard that my Dad's friend owns not far from my house. He's been back and forth about letting me have the car. But he ended up telling my Dad to come and get it since we did some work on his 1966 F-100. This car was posted on here before, but I can't seem to find the posting. I guess at some point he gave up, maybe because he couldn't get a title or whatever. I put the set of 14x7 stock wheels off of my 70 Torino GT on it and it doesn't look bad. I'll be looking for a set of factory Comet GT dog dishes for it though.

The motor is locked up, but I've got a 5.0 sitting beside it at my Dad's that is going into the car this weekend if I'm lucky. The biggest problem areas are a hole in the floor pan behind the driver's seat, the trunk lid and the deck lid all of which I have. The typical cracked rear upper shock mounts from air shocks. I'll be using all the drum brake components I got off of Rusty a while back from his Comet GT to get it stopping. About the only thing I'll have to buy for it in the near term is a battery, master cylinder and new radiator.

It sat for almost 2 years in the junkyard and didn't get a window broken, the hood scoop wasn't removed and the bucket seats and sport mirrors were all left alone. The hood lip trim and headlight trim don't have a ding in them and just need polished. The odometer shows around 42K miles which by looking at the old WV inspection sticker look to be the original miles.

I found the old thread from back in 2012. I guess he never did much with the car. I've PM'd him to see if I can get more info on it.

Congrats! Same color combo as my uncle's '71 GT except his also has a black vinyl top.

I love it!!! Nice car! Congratulations! Those deep-dish Torino wheels look right at home. Looks to be original paint??

Yep original paint except where someone separated cheap spray bomb black on the inside of the door jamb. The GT grill is in the trunk with one side broke off right where the turn signal light mounts, otherwise it's perfect.

    Hi Tody:
MERRY CHRISTMAS ! Did you ever check out my old COMET which was for sale ? Just curious .. Seems like YOU would be a qualified owner since you've built yours already and have experience in these cars.

    Hi Chip,
no, I did not find the time yet. We just had a second child, so priorities are elsewhere ;)
But it still is for sale and I hope to find some time soon!

Got the old engine out today and thought it was stuck until we found the torque converter not seated all the way. Missed the last notch. It looks like at that point they gave up on working on the car. It was the original numbers matching engine for the car. I'm going to rebuild it at some point and drop it back in with a T-5.

I was pleasantly surprised to find all the original shift linkage hidden in the car along with most of the other missing parts. Hope to get it fired up tomorrow or the next day. - Matt
