I recently was given a 1989 fox body mustang (5.0 5 speed car) that was wrecked several years ago. What all do I need to keep so that I can swap the drive train into the Maverick?!?
As much as possible... If you are going the EFI route then everything from the ECM, wiring harness . remove the charging harness from the head light loom , Inertia switch in the trunk , Drive shaft , Front Seats , Throttle peddle and cable , Clutch cable , and any thing you think just might need .. Don't cut any wires ... take your time removing ECM harness from car
Get the harness plugs at transmission for NSS and reverse lights. If you're not going to need the plugs sell them to me with a few inches of the wiring so I can complete my t5 swap
It all depends on your plans... Being entirely different chassis not many parts directly swap between a Mav and Fox Stang... The Stang EFI could be used (save ALL wiring)but you better be good with wiring or at least have a buddy who is... If your car has 302 already you could just swap oil pickup & pans, but the timing cover will require drilling for front dipstick(not possible to use side mount dipstick)... When swapping front accessories it's very common to have pulley misalignment as late and early timing cover vary approx 3/8" in height(I used all the '72 front dress on my '91 engine).. Retaining Stang timing cover would allow using the serpentine belt setup(no doubt with some mods)... If you're going carb then you'll need a intake manifold(original 302 can be used) or at least a dist with steel gear to match roller cam... For the t-5 they'll be some adapting for clutch linkage as the original Mav uses linkage and Stang has a cable setup... If you use the Mav trans you'd need the correct 50oz flexplate/flywheel for that transmission...
