I found a local listing for a 66 mustang rear disc conversion kit. The ad says, "used rear disc brake conversion kit. in great shape , just removed. from the 8" rear"

Would this work on my '74 V8 5 lug stocker rear?

    Thanks

It should work as 66 Mustang 8" rear will swap with ones in any Mav/Comet, the only thing that I would check would be whether or not the rear rotor's center hole will fit. There where 2 different hub diameters that came with our Mav/Comets, I believe they where 2.42" and 2.78". Also, your 74 came with staggered rear shocks, the 66 did not have staggered shocks, so you may want to check that caliper does not hit a shock. Does it come with provisions for hooking up to emergency/parking brakes? Probably have to use 15" rims/wheels too..........
You can purchase brand new rear disc conversion kits for around $300, so keep that in mind when purchasing something "used".

I got about $50 in my Crown Vic rear disc. The great thing was the Crown Vic just got a brake job before it started its new life living in the junkyard. I agree with Dyent on the backing plate. The 65-66 Mustang used smaller bearings in their tapered axle tubes...don't know if that effects getting the backing plate on the axle housing.
