Low mileage '74 Maverick spring perches: Salvaged '61 Comet bronze bushed perches w/new O'rings and zerks for my '74 Maverick disc swap : .. Bushing Perches still available from a few Mustang vendors. haev fun
has anyone ever tried to slather Vaseline around the rubber bushings to work its way in, or would that cause the rubber to break down? Seems like it might work its way into the rubber on metal surface in the summer months.....I am just ignorant enough to try it if there is a chance.
I used the PST polygraphite kit. My bushings came in black so they look fairly original. With graphite built into them, they are quiet too. If going poly, you need to take the big poly strut rod bushings and throw them out. Use stock rubber there, because the added stiffness of the poly can snap a factory strut rod. Had it happen at 5 mph going over a speed bump, and it ripped the steering wheel out of my grip and tossed the drivers front tire into the inner fender. This would have been very bad at any real speed..... immediate hard left turn. Scott Drake now has a spring perch that moves like the roller perches, but it is simply set in some polymer, and very reasonably priced. They are on my to-do list. Also, when swapping spindles, they bolt in (EXCEPT Lincoln Versailles, different ball joint ... don't do it). You do need to use outer tie rod ends that match the spindle, not the car.
Just ordered Moog upper arms, lower arms, and strut rod bushing. Poly sway bar bushings and AC Delco idler arm only because I couldn't find Moog arm for my 70, only Moog idler arm bushings. Kinda sucks I couldn't find a kit but this came out cheaper. I didn't order spring perches because I already some new ones that someone gave me for free last year. Ordered the parts from eBay because they sent me a 15% off code only good for today up to $50 off so win win
I rebuilt my front with all stock parts from melvims classic ford. Coat was about $900. I did however use roller spring perches. Cant recall the company for those.
