I need some guidance regarding my T5 swap

The car and motor,302, are both 1972. The trans is an 87 t-5 from a 5.0. The bell is from the 87.

    I ordered a flywheel for a 71-72 maverick (157 tooth Pioneer flywheel #163)

The clutch from Napa (1107042) for the 87 trans.

Only three of the six mounting bolts line up!!

Can someone tell me what application i need to order the clutch/TOB/ PP for please. Can I use a clutch kit for the 72 with the T5?

Part numbers would be awesome if you still have those.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated:huh:

I am a little fuzzy on this .... it has been years. Are you sure that you haven't turned it to try every possible position? Pretty sure it is assymetrical so that it can only go on one way, so that the balance weight is in the right place.

Order a clutch for your 72 flywheel... the 87 clutch is meant for a 87 50oz flywheel, I think that is why it wont fit...

The flywheel mounts right up to the crank nice. The pressure plate holes dont line up with the holes in the flywheel. The flywheel is a 157 tooth.

The T5 doesn't care what flywheel you use, but your engine does. And it depends on what type of clutch and pressure plate you're gonna run. Over the years I've had about every combination of clutch and flywheel on mine. Used a Long-style pp, drilled the flywheel for a factory diaphram pp, used 5.0 flywheel drilled for a Long-style, used the special CenterForce diaphram clutch for Long-style pp patterned flywheel. Always the same starter, though, the short-nosed V8 one.

To add to this the 5.0 clutches and pressure plates are metric, where the 302 clutches and pressure plates are SAE, they almost match but they dont, so if you want to use a diaphram clutch on your engine you need to get a matching flywheel I got a ford racing one new for about $80...

They make diaphram clutches for both patterns of flywheels. The CenterForce diaphram clutch I have bolts on to an early flywheel and comes with a special length release bearing so that the original push-type release fork can be used.

gents...a clutch setup from a 79 mustang is gonna be the one.

79 and 72 use the 10 in while the 87 uses the 10.5. TOB are the same on both.

    napa # 1107005 for kit

    thank u for the replies

If you have a late model engine you need a late model flywheel (50 oz.) and clutch set up, if you have a stock maverick engine you need a n early (28 oz.) flywheel and matching pressure plate. my T5 out of an 89 mustang has the same imput shaft spine count as the three speed I took out.
