1970 Fuel Filler Neck: CA vs Non-CA

    The venting system of my 70's California emissions tank is shot, and likes to puke fuel and vapors into the trunk. Fun, fun.

    As such, I am swapping it for a non-California tank with none of the emissions stuff.

    In addition to the obvious emissions items, I have discovered that the CA tank has a completely different filler neck hole and sealing method than the non-CA tank.

    My original CA tank has a rubber seal on the tank that the filler slides in, along with the hose type seal that slides down over it. Comparing the two tanks and a picture I found on ebay, I believe that the non-CA tank only has the rubber hose type seal (nothing additional on the tank), similar to the early Mustangs. Is this an accurate statement?

    I suppose I will need to get a non-CA filler neck and hose seal to complete this swap, as mine will not work. Does anyone have one?

    You are correct, the non California uses a straight rubber hose. I bought a Mustang hose and cut it down as mine was hard as a rock.

    Any Mustang supply house has them. I got mine online. The auto parts stores might be able to get them too.
