If you plan driving the car to Gathering, if car is running well now -- why experiment w/ major change now?

Talked with the painter and car is painted, just needs new windshield and rear window put back in and new bumpers put on when I get there to pick it up . Some of the things done to it are moving mirrors forward , taking off Ford lettering from hood and trunk and welding holes shut , notching fenders for small bumper swap , cut out and repaired a couple rust spots in engine compartment , new rubber every place , welded brackets in trunk to bolt new bumper to . Did away with the tape that the Stallions had and painted it instead , installed a new Stallion decal and then clear coated over everything so no ridges just smooth sides . Car was completely torn down for paint job, doors , hood , fenders , trunk lid , door jams done the right way . Hate being so far away from car and not being able to work on it but know that I will be pleased when I get it back.

He did some extra things to it that was not what I asked to do but I told him to treat it like it was his car, he repainted hood hinges, valve covers, shock tower braces and painted engine compartment the best he could with engine in car and probably other things he has not told me about .

Thank you to all the people that helped me with parts for the small bumper conversion, you know who you are . Of course pics will be coming when possible

    I don't see this as...major change.
I blew an AOD (4th gear) in Ala. on the way to Joplin Mo. took it home, had the transmission rebuilt over night and left the next morning for Joplin. left Joplin and went to DC the next weekend (Round up)...11 days and 3300 miles...I got peoples...:thumbs2:
I'm always looking for something for them to do.

Not to rain on your parade but Turbo Coupe T-5 has poor gear ratios(3.97 1st) and is weaker than any v-8 version. Also the bearing surface on end of input shaft is smaller than v-8 trans. Everything about it is different than V-8 version, even case is machined differently for the input shaft gear, meaning the smaller V-8 gear won't fit.

Turbo Coupes used exact same T-5 as did the std 4cyl Stangs of '87-'93, plus most of the parts for the half motor T-5 are obsolete.

No rain here my friend, I removed the engine AND transmission from the same running & driving car.
Is it the BEST trans, probability not...... But for the $600 that I paid for all of it, the Comet will run & drive until upgrades can be afforded and made.

Assuming transmission had been in use for some time, it may not be a TC unit.

Pull it off bell, pop it in first, rotate input and count number of rotations required to turn output shaft once. Four will equal a 1/2 motor trans while most v8 will be 3 1/3 turns.

Of course one could always look up tag number on tail housing.

The trans was recently put in the car but never driven. 30E42F03-018B-4C5D-8BDC-A9956D199454.jpeg 13E77D71-A35A-4B3F-A492-B8AB2E261C76.png

Too bad the number isn't 44 higher, the 199 is a good transmission. I've busted the 169 versions, so if you have a choice stay away from that one as well.
