Having oil starvation issues with my 351w have been running a stock front sump non baffled pan, want to run a deep sump baffled pan what will fit with stock suspension ?
I have been running a stock front sump 351 pan looking for a deep sump larger capacity pan that fits in stock suspension Maverick.
Is there something unique about your 351W or what you are doing with your car that would require a deep sump pan? What are the symptoms? We cannot answer your question without the details. I ran an 351W for many years on the street and racing with a stock front sump pan. Just trying to help!
My car is a street legal track car, have wiped out bearings on a couple of motors all is fine till I start pushing car hard, motor is strong, car is running at streets all the time, it accelerates hard all the oil winds up at back starves for oil. Looking for a pan that will fit ,looked at a couple that said would not fit Maverick, someone must have found something that works with 351 and stock suspension , if not I will build my own.
Have you looked at Kevco? Another member has one on his 302 and it fit with stock suspension. I have one for mine but have not test fit it yet. This is the one I bought. https://kevkoracing.com/collections/ford-302-351w/products/part-f101-3-ford-t-style-front-sump-pan
Dang, I was just about to post this same question. Putting a 351w in my maverick, stock front suspension, w/ a windage tray and baffled oil pan. Was going to try out Moroso's 20507, 7qt baffled oil pan, which looks the same as the kevko pan. Says it fits a 1967 mustang, which has a similar engine bay and front suspension as our mavericks if I am not mistaken. Futhermore, was going to use a Melling high volume oil pump, M-83HV, Moroso pickup tube, 24507, and a Canton Windage Tray, 20-933P. Not sure if you have main studs or not, so windage tray may require a line hone on the mains going to main studs from factory main bolts. Warning I have zero knowledge if this pan will work, but very confident it will.
I had a widened sump pan on my 331 that fit, bought it off ebay. These have the "Y" shaped sump. The thing to watch for though is in running a main girdle, the rear wall of the pan needs to have a bulge in it to clear a girdle. The "Y sump clears everything in front just fine.
Just want to say up front that I have 0 personal experience with the 351 swap in our cars but I do know for fact you need to be very careful in your selection of any T-sump style pan. I have a 302 Canton road race pan(#630.. iirc) which was no-go at 13.5" wide. Switched over to an aluminum version of similar design but slightly narrower 12" wide. Both canton and moroso have similar steel versions at 12" wide as well. I like these designs because they have shorter 8" sump depths to help ground clearance but still ample capacity with trap doors in the t-style sumps. Also a deep sump unit on ebay right now for decent price. https://www.ebay.com/i/264254871921?chn=ps&ul_ref=https%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-117182-37290-0%2F2%3Fmpre%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fi%2F264254871921%3Fchn%3Dps%26mkevt%3D1%26mkrid%3D711-117182-37290-0%26mkcid%3D2%26itemid%3D264254871921%26targetid%3D596465992788%26device%3Dm%26adtype%3Dpla%26googleloc%3D9019700%26poi%3D%26campaignid%3D1689407495%26adgroupid%3D74365778388%26rlsatarget%3Dpla-596465992788%26abcId%3D1140476%26merchantid%3D114161273%26gclid%3DCjwKEAjwlujnBRDl2teOp_veulQSJAC5bHgtvZTGtdBu-URCeAm95C3nW9xPL3TPOrjA511lJy6XGxoCb3_w_wcB%26srcrot%3D711-117182-37290-0%26rvr_id%3D1998957480629%26rvr_ts%3D3222a6b616b0ad4be5465c99fff797b2 Not sure why that copy/pasted url is so long in the message draft.. on my phone and best I could do for now. Could also search ebay for.. 351W front sump deep oil pan.. if link doesn't work. I'd also add that the melling select oil pumps(#10833.. iirc)reinforced housing and shaft supportive end plates are far superior to the regular housings on anything that see's higher rpm. Well worth the few extra bucks. Just be sure to disassemble, clean and check clearances on anything you buy these days. I constantly find metal chips and jagged machining surfaces/bored hole edges whenever I blueprint one. And don't forget to red loctite all bolts, including the pickup tube.. which should be sized no smaller than 3/4" to help prevent cavitation problems. Hope that helps.. good luck on the hunt.
The Kevco pan will clear the studs with the main girdle but... it does have a built in crank scraper that interferes and will need adjusted. Noted for future reference!
