yes, following. the ascona accident was freaky, and the maverick had problems on this side of the track as well on launch.
there's another contestant from europe i follow closely, the light blue 66 nova from austria.

It's pretty cool to have people from all over the world compete. That Asconda accident was wild.

The little black maverick is a newly built Maverick that was built by a guy in PA. out of a shop Trickworks.
It's at Drag Week with street tune up trying to just have fun and try to get some time on it to shake it down a bit.

It's a single turbo 351 low dollar collection of parts. Power glide injected. Once there's some time on it he'll turn it up and get it into the 8's.

The street eliminator they are in limits him to 10.0. It's been in the nines on low boost.

Very cool!! I watched most of the live fe d all five days. It looked like it was making easy passes. Sounds like a nice build. Hope to see more of it.

I'll try and get him to join and post the details . It's really a basic bunch of readily available parts all assembled on a budget basis to have fun and go fast without breaking the bank on pump gas. The mavericks chassis is put together to really be able to grow into bigger and bigger power if the desire to do so happens.

At drag week they were not trying to launch at all only keep it at 10.0. So he barely pulled it up on two step with hardly any boost at launch otherwise he would break out. It was amazing how consistent he was other than breaking out first day with a 9.94 which hurt his average since they only got one opportunity first day. A bunch of 10.0's afterwards one after the other showed how good the combo keep consistency.

But for now it was all about reliable fun without breaking the bank and keeping all aware you can go pretty damn fast on a realistic budget without going cutting edge.
The car should end up really low 9's to high 8's when they push the envelope with the current base. Not to shabby for a iron headed 351 Windsor and a single basic turbo.

    Hello all
The black Maverick from Drag week is mine.
    A little about the week.
Prior the event we had about 10 passes on the car, four street miles on it and never had the trailer hooked up to it.
We completed the week with no issues and the car performed awesome
We ran street machine eliminator which has a 10.00 cap. Due to rain we were only allowed one pass and unfourtantly we ran a 9.994 which due to running to fast gave us a 20.00 pass for the day. Day 2 we ran a 10.008, Wednesday was a 10.03, Thursday 10.006 and Friday a 10.04. All passes that week were made with 13psi of boost, now that we are back home we are going to start putting some power to it, I believe that we should run low 9s to high 8s when we get everything sorted out. We have already run 9.84 with this current tuneup.
    Motor
Stock 1992 351 block and crank, used eagle h beam rods and dss 18cc dished pistons. Used Trick Flow stage 2 roller cam, new Howards roller lifters. Mellings select standard pressure and volume oil pump new. New bearings and push rods. Used ARP head and main studs. Used cast iron World Products Windsor SR heads, ebay knock off air gap intake, throttle body and wastegate. Used 80mm Borg Warner turbo and Tial blowoff valve.
Donated Pypes fox body header facing forward, custom built hot and cold side. Used Frozen boost intercooler mounted on passenger toe board. Full 4" aluminum exhaust with no muffler ( actually pretty quiet while cruising)
Powerglide Transmisson, Some new and a lot used
FTI 1.80 planetary, pump and vasco input shaft, 8 clutch pack, 6 clutch reverse pack, unknow valve body and trans brake. Stefs oil pan and JW bellhousing and PST driveshaft.
    Rear
Ford 9" back braced, Quick performance center section ( Yukon bolt thru center, spool and 10bolt pinion retainer) 35 spline Moser gun drilled axles and Bear brakes.
    Frame
Shop built 2x3 back half, used S&W ladder bars, custom chrome moly cage, used Chris Alston front clip modified so the front clip now bolts in place.
Used weld wheels 15x4 front 15x10 with 28x10.5 pro bracket radials M/T
    ECM
MS3 Pro Ulitmate controls the motor, boost, fuel pump and Meth pump. We are able to log any sensor on the car, fuel pressure, oil, boost, wheel speed and anything we put a sensor on.
    Fuel
Holley 120lbs injectors, Areomotive Eliminator fuel pump, filters and regulator ( these where all new in packages but bought them from people with dead projects.
The car runs on straight 93 pump gas, no additives and we have not turned the meth injection on yet.
The car was built by myself and the other guys in the shop. Trickworksllc.com
My goal was to build a fast car on a budget, which I believe I have achieved. I started the car several years ago, buy purchasing parts before I actually even had a car to install them on. I spent time looking on all kinds of forum, facebook marketplace and some swap meets to find parts that were reasonable, I only got burned on two items, a bad trans temp gauge and a set of roller lifters that we not correct for the block, these losses still did not offset the huge savings by carefully buying used parts.

If anybody has any question I would be more that happy to answer them

Got any pics? I watched about all the live feed. It looked like it was just cruising down the track. I like the way the car sits to. Thanks for the build info.

What was your experience like at drag week? Did you like it, would you do it again? And what class would you run if you turn the car up? I'm building my maverick specifically to run events like drag week and Rocky Mountain race week. I'd like to run the 8.50 class in both events. Do you have any advice for someone building a car's for events like this?
