I found a guy selling an aod on craigslist but it being 3 hours away, I wanna make sure it's the real deal first. These are the pictures he sent me. Any help or questions I can ask will be much appreciated.
I am awaiting pictures of the pan and a length from bell housing to tail shaft. Yes I will have it gone through for sure. I have the flywheel from both motors I have in my garage, that's all I should need as long as the flywheel matches the motor.
I'm guessing that the lever for the tv cable will come with the kit as I do not see one in the pictures
So it seems that having this one rebuilt...I could almost get a "new" one...who is a reputable retailer that I can look at? I see monster all the time but are they any good?
Have you considered a 4R70W swap? Need a control box or other solution like manual valve body. Stronger than most AODs save for true competition built, and more readily available parts. V6 mustang tranny fits behind a SBF same as the AOD. I had a B&M street/strip AOD that didn't hold up long behind my pump gas 351 maybe 325 HP? I'm running a C4 reverse valve body manual shift setup currently, but really want to get OD back and 4R70W is what I'll likely be doing. I'm running a 4.11 gear but would like to run 3.91-3.73 gears and the wide ratio 4R70W has a deeper first gear.
Stay away from Monster Trans. Seen dozens of posts over the years on other boards about poor quality builds and nightmare customer service.
I have done business with a place called Broader Performance in Weatherford TX and have been very satisfied. They do nothing but transmissions, mainly Ford. https://broaderperformance.com/
From my experiance it is very difficult to get the throttle control rod or cable set properly without the original carb/throttle body setup it came with. It can be done but it is usually not easy. This trans is not forgiving of driving it with the TV rod/cable misadjusted. Many times I have seen the ford variable venturi carb replaced with a carb that has kickdown linkage for a C6 trans, and it NEVER can be set right. Too bad Ford made such a pos carb.
Adj AOD TV cable for max travel at WOT, will give firmest shift. Short is always better than too long, excessive length causes slippage. If shifts are hard/late, lengthen cable in approx 1/8" increments.
