How do you degrees the outside of a super Duper crazy greasy engine? This one is from the early 60s and it’s never been out. I would like to repaint it after the rebuild and need a very clean block. I will be unable to hottank it.

I use Easy-off oven cleaner and a pressure-washer. Just spray it down let it set for about 30min then hit with a pressure-washer.

Both solutions mentioned are on point, just make sure to wear safety glasses and a face shield, you don't want that stuff in your eyes!

Yep. I wore safety glasses the last time I used it on my current project. I actually used the oven cleaner on the frame & K-member, and the SuperClean on the rest of the engine compartment (engine out)...

Make sure to cover distributor and carb so no water gets into them and it works best if you scrape away the big chunks first then the cleaner of you choice can get to the grime that is stuck on the block. If you have access to a steam cleaner it is far better than a pressure washer but not that many places have them unless it is a industrial shop like a mill or truck repair shop
