Ok so I totally rebuilt the front end over a year ago and all is good except the last month where I found the drivers side started pulling to the left real hard. Turns out the front strut rod rubber bushing was split and flattened behind the nut and washer. I installed a new on last week and had it realigned and it’s split again. Mechanic is older guy and knows how to line older cars and is the best in the area. He said the material of the rubber may be weak. so I have one more stock set I can use. Am I putting them on correctly or is this my fault?? Which way should I install these to be correct?? the passenger side is fine btw and installed both sides the same when rebuilt. The first pic is how I installed them yet driver side has split 2 times now even after alignment guy tightened them as he’s done for 40 years. Which picture is correct??
Part number is what Melvins classic ford sales. These bushings in pic are new unused. The nut and washers are on the car as it should be with the two inner sleeves as well. I just haven’t took it all off the car yet. I need to know which direction is correct to be sure I’m not wrong.
Generally split rubber is due to composition or age, in your case I dunno. I'm using Moog replacement bushings in my Comet & both Fairlanes(same part), no doubt better design than orig.
I,m wearing moog as well. Orientation of bushing was discussed in detail a few months ago here. If u search you,ll find discussion with pictures.
