Does anybody have a picture of their manual trans floorpan with the shifter hole showing? I pulled my carpet today, and discovered the sound deadener pad under the carpet had a good punch out template of where the hole should be. The problem is, the deadener pad looked like it was shifted slightly toward the drivers side. Great if it’s supposed to be offset, but I don’t want to cut until I know the hole is somewhat close to where the factory intended it to be.
    Thanks!

The factory hole for the shifter to stick through the floor using a 3 or 4 speed manual.

You can see the scribed mark in yellow paint pen where the sound deadener was. It’s offset slightly to the drivers side. Is this correct or should the hole be dead center in the tunnel?

Center the shifter hole cutout between the 2 "Dimples" on your tunnel for factory location.........

Saw your pic above, exactly what I was looking for. It looks like your image has a ‘hump’ added to clear the shifter mechanism. Is this how it was done at the factory, or did you add that part?

That is a factory installed "shifter hump", it has 4 threaded holes to attach chrome bezel which secures the rubber boot. If you are installing an aftermarket shifter, you do not need the hump, I have installed a Hurst shifter with Toploader 4 speed in my 74 Comet, which like your 73 Mav, had a column shift auto.......

How thing's going David? Hope all is well! You ever considered going to a 5 speed w/ that 3.70 gear combo? Would be a nice combo if you do much highway speed driving.

Just so your aware...That shifter hump is used for automatic floor shifter applications...Not necessary for standard shift apps...

Here are another pictures as well. And as stated....the "hump" was only on automatic floor shift cars.

Thanks for the pics. I’m a huge proponent of ‘measure more than twice’ before cutting anything. Seeing the factory hole as many times as possible will prevent any butchery!
