Specifically, the rear ones. I keep winding up with the smaller sized ones, and it's frankly frustrating.
From what I find these are .844 diameter: C2OZ2261C, C3OZ2261C, D3DZ2261A These are .906 diameter: C2SZ2261A, C3OZ2262A, C6TZ2262A, C7AZ2262A, C7AZ2262C, D1AZ2262A, D2OZ2262A, D2OZ2262B, D3OZ2262C, D3TZ2262B, D5DZ2262A
These are the ones that should work. These are from Advance Auto Parts and are the Carquest Brand. I ran into the same problem ordering brake cylinders for the Maverick Rear in my 1938 Ford Coupe. I ordered ones for my 71 Comet and they were smaller. Ordered ones for a 1975 maverick and they were larger. The smaller ones are listed at 27/32" bore and the larger below at 7/8" bore. Rear Right; Bore: 7/8 In. #WCA17508 Rear Left; Bore: 7/8 In. #WCA17507
Ford Master Parts lists 27/32" as only cylinder '71-'73, while '74-'75 used 7/8" and '76-'77 were 15/16".
It changes the brake balance. The master cylinder, front wheel cylinder, and rear wheel cylinder sizes are all juggled to get the best combination of pedal pressure, pedal travel, and front/rear brake balance. A larger wheel cylinder will put more pressure against the shoes at the expense of more pedal travel. Ideally the front brakes should lock up before the rears, but only barely.
Sorry to bring alive an old zombie thread, but Im gonna do it anyway I bought a new rearend for the Mav. Was told it was a 73, nope its got to be a 74+ cuz the back center hubs are bigger. Now I need new wheel brake cylendars. I am seeing online, and as also stated above, that it seem 74/75 use one , and the 76 uses another. There is no part number on the existing. How can I tell what I have and which I need? and does it really matter if i use a 74/75 or a 76, since the master, and front disk, propotioning valve are all new and need adjusted anyway?
