Checked the connectors on my car again Saturday and found that there is neutral switch on the column. Does anyone have a column shift car and could you check the transmission and see if it even has a neutral switch? I believe the neutral switch on the column goes to the six pin connector. So if it was disconnected and the one for a floor shift was plugged in it's place and the correct harness for the floor shift plugs into it might work.
Lemme get this straight... You're saying the floor shift column, now installed, has the crescent shaped switch normally used on column shift? I have this switch on my column shift Comet. With it in place, there's no reason to have one on transmission. I'm guessing the column switch was just set in place on floor shift column? Without mechanism to operate switch, it's constantly setting in park position. When I switch mine over to floor, I'll probably cut wiring/plug from column switch & use it to build a adapter harness to connect switch that will be inside my shifter. Could just as easily be used to build harness for trans mounted switch.
I don't have the floor shift column installed. Mine still has the column shift column. After looking it appears to have a neutral switch on the column. I'm going to check and make sure. I am going to have to take the package tray out to make sure. It appears to have a harness on it that goes to a 6 pin connector mounted on the column it's probably around 3/4" wide and around 1 1/4 " long. Then there's a harness plugged into it. The column I have for a floor shift has the same 6 pin connector on it. It also has a semi circle connector for the lights. It may never work with out the rod going to the column from the transmission. This information may be wrong Ill let you know as soon as I get a chance to check it out more
Not sure if I stated this earlier, so if not I will shed some more light on the subject. My car is a factory floor shift car. The neutral safety switch is mounted on the transmission. There is NO neutral safety switch at the bottom of the column. The factory installed a harness (the one I posted a picture of earlier) that on one end plugs into the neutral safety plug/harness. The other end of this harness plugs in at the bottom of the steering column....where the column mounted neutral safety switch would plug in if the car had one. I hope this helps.
