Hey guys. I've replaced the power steering pump in my 73 Maverick 3 times. The first two were reman Cordone and eventually started leaking. The one I have now was a new one, (not reman) and now it's leaking. Is there a replacement out there that holds up? My power steering system calls for F type fluid.

I've had a new Lares pump om my Fairlane for approx 1½ years, hasn't leaked.

    Got it from Rockauto.

Where is it leaking? If it's between the pump body and canister(O ring) that's a easy fix. That does assume the canister isn't warped from prying on it when tightening belt. Front seal isn't a impossible task. I replaced one in pump on my Cobra four years ago, no leaks. If nut that holds canister to pump housing is loose they'll leak.

That's where I bought mine. It's a Lares. It's leaking where the high pressure line's coming out. I was told it a nylon bushing that's wore out.

Other than internal gasket between pump & back of housing, there's absolutely nothing else back there. Large nut on outside of housing must be tight. If that OK, pull pump, remove canister housing & replace gasket. I believe there's a rubber O ring in mine, I bought pump(s) without housing. Actually I have two, second for Cobra that pump is noisy, yet to change it. Since I bought a pump, original has quieted significantly.

I can take a pict tomorrow of pump without canister.

I recently replaced the seals on a leaking pump of mine. I did not want to replace the pump as it was working fine other than the leak, and it was quiet. The seal kit is about $15. You may want to watch this to see what is involved. Not a difficult task at all.

Here's what's inside. This orig Ford pump has rubber coated washer, most seem to have paper washer. I know my Lares had a red paper washer, 99% I added a carb or maybe A/C O ring.

I believe the kit I used had a paper type of seal there. I applied a thin layer of rtv to both sides of the seal.
