I started the front bumper tuck today by drilling new bolt holes 2.5" from originals. But, after lugging that behemoth bumper support/frame around, I thought it could use some weight loss. I marked out large rectangles of metal I could remove without sacrificing strength. I started cutting with my cut-off wheel and it started smoking. Time for a new one anyway. It was a HF and I've used it for 3 years. Not bad for $10. To those that have done bumper tucks, where did you trim the top rubber bumper molding, the front of it or the rear? To do the rear it needs to come off I assume?
if you take it off and flip it over you will see where it looks like it is already marked for the trimming.
Got a new cut-off wheel/grinder and sliced and diced. 6 lbs savings is all but I was obsessed and it had to be done. I'm sure some of you have been there before. Now to reinstall. Frank, thanks for the tip.
I did a 2-inch tuck on mine. It doesn't sound like much, but it is very noticeable, and I didn't wantvthe bumper covering the side marker light...
Thank you for posting this info!..I really needed those scribe marks located so I could grind myself into Bolivia....Hope mine turns out as good as yours...
