Yes, the new replacement tanks came out a few months ago. They now offer ALL of the Maverick gas tanks.
Yeah just bought one,my car has needed one since I bought it 7 years ago.The old red seal has held up good until this year.Good timing lol
Just installed the eBay replacement tank fits flawlessly.came with sending unit,o ring,and filler tube.no rubber connector coupling or flange gasket for filler tube though.Great product nonetheless
For your safety and loved ones, I'd make a metal plate for behind the rear seat or have someone make a metal cover for the gas tank. The Mavs are the same as the Stangs if you get hit in the rearend. Did it on both my 66 Stang and 68 Cougar that have this type of gas tank for trunk floor.
I was gonna say that as well but saw your comments. I did the same exact thing on my '67 Mustang. Crazy how there never was any divider of any sort between the fuel cell and the interior of the car from the factory.
I find it funny that the Pinto was the only vehicle targeted.Like you guys pointed out the early Mustangs, Falcons,and Mavericks all have a similar design.As do many other manufacturers throughout the years
That is because on August 10, 1978 three teenage girls in a 1973 Pinto were killed in a fiery rear end collision. They were not the first to loose their lives in a Pinto rear end collision. The deaths of three teenage girls in a car crash made for some really ugly press for the Ford Pinto!
As a happy coincidence a steel firewall behind the back seat also does a lot to stiffen up the back end of any Falcon-chassis car. Neither Ford nor Shelby ever did it, but people have done torsion tests in which they chain one end of Mustangs to the floor (on jack stands) and twisted the body shell with weights hung from bars bolted to the ends of the car. Nothing short of a cage seems to stiffen up the back of the car more.
