hey all, i pulled the carpet and lining from the floor of my 77 mav and discovered some rust holes. as far as i know, the procedure for this is to grind the surface rust off and see what i can’t save, cut that out, and weld new sheet metal on there. most of it seems to be in the area where your feet would go, in the two front seat floor pans…

go easy on me, i have no experience doing this kind of thing. I’m wondering what gauge sheet metal i need, and where to get it. or, if there’s an easier way to solve this problem, i am all for it. thanks :)

Floor pans are available, here is a link that tells you how to get them, I would imagine they make them for 77 as well . I would pour a bucket of water down the cowl (area in front of windshield ) and see if it makes your floor wet, common problem with Maverick or old windshield rubber

that’s a great resource, but i was thinking more along the lines of patching the existing pan, i just don’t know what kind of metal I’d need to patch it.

... good suggestion on checking cowl area for source of rusted floors.

Typically, 'floor panels' - pieces of the floor steel are available with similar shapes making fab/fix easier. Although specific Maverick pieces my not be available, similar earlier Falcon or Mustang can be used. Mustang vendors are a good source and have good illustrations.

And of course any old steel panel can work depending on your resources and abilities. Mild steel sheets in 18 to 22 gauge are readily available from steel shop or interweb.

you can also simply use old steel panels cut from hoods and other spares for new fabbn'

as suggested before...find out why the pans rusted before doing any repair. If it's the cowl leaking that is a whole nother ball game. about a $2,500 project if you have to pay someone to do it. that is if you can find someone that will/can do it.
try not to get any water on the windshield when you go to check the cowl. that way if the cowl isn't leaking you can then pour some water on the windshield to see if it's the glass seal.
