Hey gang! Its been quite a while since i checked in here- life got busy and the car has been sitting; then COVID happened.
I'm getting the Maverick back on the road with some upgrades and one my wife wants is A/C for our road trip.
I've been looking at a variety of makes and models based on comments and threads here. It seems the aftermarket under/behind dash units might be the easiest and quickest to install.
That leads to the questions: If I use a heat/cool/defrost unit I know the hole where the fan protrudes through the firewall needs to be plugged, but what about the passanger side "hat" opening; the fresh air vent? Plug this too or are you ducting it to the aftermarket unit?
Does anyone have pictures of a complete unit like I described above? My other option is a cool only underdash but I'm not sure i have enough room with the existing heaterbox in place.
    Any suggestions?

I'd be very interested in this too if anyone has done it and has pictures.

I wish I had pictures of the aftermarket A/C system in my 77 4dr. It worked completely independant from the heating system. It had all the under hood components (compressor, condenser, dryer and lines) and a box fastened under the radio with vents and adjustment knobs. If the system was in working order I would never have removed it. Sorry again for not having pics. But these systems did exist at one time.

Long time no see! I've got a Vintage Air GenIV in my 69. I made a cover plate for the passenger vent out of aluminum sheet, and sealed it with black rtv.

Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment, but I'm very satisfied with it. The wife keeps a blanket in the car for long stretches.

Hey Will!! Yeah, it's been quite a while since i was on here- haven't done any Power Tours for a while- put an addition on the house, acted as the General Contractor and that tied me up for waaaay too long. Now that is out of the way I've got money to spend on the Maverick.

I looked at the vintage air kits and I looked at what you have. Most of those units were out of stock, kept shopping and bought a Cold Master under dash, universal DIY kit. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow so we will see how it turns out.
I should start a build thread. Although the car has been done for years and used extensively, it's getting a lot of upgrades over the next couple of weeks. A/C, Power Steering (Borgeson kit), hydraulic clutch conversion with a hydraulic throwout bearing. I'm eliminating all mechanical aspects of that clutch linkage- that has been my nemesis ever since I completed the car.
I hope all is well with you-

All's good here. We made a couple of tour stops in 19, but HRPT kinda took a back seat to Cruisin the Coast the last few years. Maybe next year.

I'm interested in your updates, I'm still struggling with cutting the floor for a T5, so maybe your hydraulic clutch swap will be a good influence for me. Lol

AC.jpg Dash.jpg MAster.jpg So I have been very busy since I made this post installing the A/C kit I bought in addition to a host of other things this month. Nothing like taking on a winter project one month before a road trip with this thing.
I am finishing the AC install and just need to connect the compressor and charge the system. I also installed a hydraulic clutch conversion using a hyd. throwout bearing and it is so sweet, I don't know why I waited so long to do this. Also did an aluminum radiator, serpentine belt conversion, Borgeson P/S conversion from a manual steer (everthing people say about the modifications are true) and this car is a joy to drive again. Attaching a couple of pics for updates. Not sure why multiples of the same pic show up, sorry for the duplicates
