good afternoon its been quite some time since ive posted here but i have a dilema im hoping you guys can solve i have a 76 ford maverick wich had the 250 cid with c4 trans recently i had a 302 rebuilt that came out of a 68f100 pick up with a fmx transmission from what i was told ...was putting on the flexplate today when i noticed it seems damaged so i decided i need a new one how ever i counted the teeth on the flex plate wich has 164 and i assume the 280z weight when i went to the parts store i had them look up a 76 maverick 302 and it calls for the 157 tooth flexplate now im confused on wich plate i need cause im assuming the 164 tooth is obviously bigger as well as the plate that es between the flex plate and engine block ...can anyone tell me wich flex plate i need to use and if i need a new backing plate ?
You didn’t say what transmission you are using behind the rebuilt 302. If you are using the c4 from the Maverick, a 157 tooth 28oz flexplate is what you need.
im using the c4 that was mated to the 250....i figured i needed the 157 tooth 280z after i posted my issue i went back out theshop and held the flex plate up to the converter and the flex plate wont even fit in the bell housing i just picked up new flex plate at oriellys ...any tips on where i can finf the starter plate new ?
The FMX uses the 164 tooth flywheel. I still run one on my 302 in my 52 F1. (In my case it’s a 1989 5.0 (50 oz balance)so the AOD flex plate fit the FMX I already had) If you ever go AOD trans I think that is the Flexplate you will need as well. The 164 tooth one. With the older 28 balance.
