I've got a set of seat tracks (no hump) from likely 72-73. Unfortunately, on the two tracks that don't have the release lever, (1) bearing is missing from each. I can't see that these will come apart without drilling out the riveted stop pins, and I see no information anywhere on the bearings. My thoughts were to get a set of tracks from any other ford from 1970-75 or so and just swap bearings, but if ive got to drill out stop pins and weld in new ones, it seems like alot of work. Any secrets to disassembling these without drilling?
This thread has pictures and description on what to do. They are easy to disassemble. You will see the dimple that needs to be flattened out. A good torch is desirable to get the bump flattened out without adding too much heat into the rest of the parts - helps keep the grease from melting. Thanks for the link. Ya, that dimple..... I saw that and hoped there was also a secret besides flattening it out. I'll have a read through the linked thread. Thanks!
UPDATE: I have a spare set of completely rusted out 71 Mustang Seat Frames and realized the seat tracks on those seats, while not the same as Maverick tracks, likely used the same bearing cage and bearings. After taking a sawzall to the rusted tracks to get them off the frames, I worked the bearings out. A day or 2 in 'Evaporust' and they were good enough to use in the Maverick seat tracks. I used my shop vice and some steel blocking to flatten the dimples, adjusted the cages for proper fit and in they went. Shop vice again with a socket and bolt to press the dimple back out and the tracks are once again functional! Thanks for the helpful info and reference link.
You're welcome ............. glad the info helped in getting your tracks working again ..............
