Ok, I have swiss cheese for a trunk pan. I have read the posts on how to use por 15 and other products. We all know that replacing the sheet metal is the best way. The question I have is has anyone successfully used a complete mustang pan, or used the mustang drops, and front and rear sections? I have a right hand trunk floor and it looks close. I also have an extra new mustang gas tank. I found a donor Maverick but might be easier to just fit some new metal.
Forgot to mention that the donor Maverick is a 4 door. Wonder if the trunk is the same? Also are the rear floor pans and seat the same?
I,ve seen rusty trunk in a galaxy convertible. Poor guy had carpet in trunk. My comet had a few hole in low spot but not bad enough to worry but i did did consider cutting square hole, framing and dropping in 70 mustang tank being i needed a new tank anyway. Just a thought.
I definitely considered putting a mustang tank in it. I bought the 4 door donor car, and it turns out that the trunk pan is in great shape. It also has really nice floor pans. FYI, the 4 door floor pan is different. It is a little longer, but will work with slight modification. It has a nice trunk lid, but it is different than the 2 door, as well as the quarter extensions. I would of thought they would have been the same.
Your donor car might be in better condition rust wise then many drivers on road today. Are you planning on having ugly spare tire, tools and other junk in trunk or are you showing your trunk at shows?
Ike 72, I plan on driving this car. I have 2 mustangs that are show worthy. I am in the process of cutting the trunk pan from the donor car. Just about got it. Although I haven't verified this, I believe the metal is thinner on the Maverick than the mustang. I am cursed with being anal about everything I do. I wouldn't be able to stand it if I don't repair it to the best I can.

Oops 351 Windsor on the previous post. Got the donor trunk pan out and media blasted. Allot of work, but it will be worth it.
Nice cars you have 68smurf and you,re doing great work. Ohh and we have something in common. Heres mine i just painted.
Thanks, I have done 6 of these old mustangs and each time I say it's the last one. Really getting tired of breathing all the nasty stuff associated with the restoration process, but I still have a passion for it. Then the Maverick showed up. Go figure! Your 70 mustang looks good. Do you have the 351 Cleveland? Did you use base clear? Our son did live in Charleston for a while, just off the ravenel bridge.
Number 6? Yep you,re an addict...hahaha! 408w in the stang. Painted base/clear. I,m on north end of mt pleasant.
