Hey all, I have a 73 Grabber that needs a new sending unit. I've gone ahead and verified the electrical signal of the cable connector at the fuel tank to the gauge works correctly so now I know there is likely something wrong with the sender (probably the float..). Looking online, EBAY sending units for the 73 are pricey. BUT, my thought is to use a OER sending unit from Classic Industries for a 73 Ford Mustang 302 (PN 9275DR). Does anyone know if they are compatible? Has anyone tried this? Thanks!
I bought the Mustang unit and ended up buying the Maverick unit from Melvins. The connector was too close to the outlet tube on the Mustang unit, so I couldn't get the connector on. Additionally, the O-ring seal that comes with the Mustang unit does not fit the Maverick tank, so you would have to buy a new seal separately...
I have used these with no problems on several tank installs. Classic Industries 1965-1968 Ford Mustang Fuel Sending Unit 3/8
Interesting, thanks for the insight. Is this the case for most of the mechanical/engine components as well? Trying to hedge my bets as parts become scarcer
Drivetrain/chassis is mostly '68-'71 Fairlane/Torino, that are also similar to Mustang. Much of Granada is modeled after Maverick. When designing a new model, it's far cheaper to use/modify existing parts vs design totally new ones. One of the biggest differences is front engine dress for small blocks (brackets, pulleys, water pump, radiator etc) changed from '69 to '70. Complete no issue, but parts do not interchange. The steering sector and P/S valve I installed in my '69 Fairlane started life in a Comet. The Mustang steering boxes use different mounting.
What does your plug look like on the sending unit? I bought a NOS a while back for my 70 but it is different.
