So I have a real deal first world question. I am modifying my gauge bezel to hold Dakota Digital VHX gauges and it made me wonder, which side would be the popular choice for the tach. I have had cars with it on the left and others on the right. My plan was to match my truck for consistency since I'm a creature of habit and put it on the left. Of the cars I have had it has been a mix but most were on the right, my GTO, the 65 Malibu I have now, my old Tacoma and even my old square boy C10. Maybe that's so you can check your speed and the mirror when the party lights start to flash behind you! Currently my 2500HD and my wife's Tahoe have it on the left so that's my direction, what's your preference?
I prefer it on the left if it's in the instrument cluster. I suppose it doesn't really matter though. I've had cars with the tach on either side...
VFD3-1004 these are the ones I have...tach on the right. I have a shift light so that eliminates having to monitor the gauge. the gauge has an option for a high RPM limiter, the reading flashes when reached. the instrument cluster isn't centered on the steering column so that might have a bearing on what side you place the tach.
Your tach should be on the right so you can monitor it as the Christmas tree lights come down. Mine is mounted on the left. Make sense? Mr. Miller, whatever floats your boat!
That work If you're in the left lane but what about the right? This was more of a question for curiosity sake, it's going on the left for continuity with the other cars we own. It's easy enought to swap if I decide to down the road.
I like it right in the middle, strapped to the steering column with a giant hose clamp. It has to be at least 5 inches in diameter and have the shift light stuck to the top of it. Who needs a speedometer ? Or any of those other pesky gauges and lights? Oh yeah, mind back to reality and off the drag strip .... put it in the left pod. It just seems to match so many other cars I have had that way.
