I been gone for a while but should start poppin up more that i'm settled in new house and stuff. But here is my question. I'm sure its pretty easy but i've never done this before and i can't seem to find anything on search.

I'm changing axels but I don't know how to get the brakes all the way off. I gotta use my 4lug screws to hold them on. I took half the drum brake off and then i took the 4 nutz off by sticking shocketed in the hole. Do i need to do something else too or should it just slide out with some force? If someone needs pic i can take some real fast but figure it was pretty easy question for everyone.

You need a slide hammer to remove the axles ... you putting 5 lug axles in a rear that was originally 4 lug? Pretty sure the consensus here has been that it won't work.

With the nuts off, knock the four bolts back through the bearing retainer plate and the brake backing plate. This should release the bearing retainer plate and then either tap the axle and bearing out or if is tight in the housing, you can either get a slide hammer or turn the brake drum around and put it back on the wheel studs and try using it as a mini slide hammer. Have also used a ten foot piece of chain and bolted it on the studs and then get back and whip it to shock the axle out. Old time stuff, before slide hammers.

Uh, Matt... if you got the bolts all the way out, you don't need to pull the axles... ;)

But if you really feel the need, I've had good luck turning the brake drum around and using it as a slide hammer.

Or just get yourself a 4 wheeler and yank it out. haha
When I did my truck, I blew to holes in a piece of angle, bolted it on and beat it out from underneath the truck with a big hammer. This way I didnt chance breaking the hub, and i got a lot better swing on it.

you could always rent a slide hammer from a rental place or auto parts store. they aren't very expensive to buy either.

    pulling axles

Just take the brake drum and reverse it on the wheel studs. Put a few lugnuts on and you you have a slide hammer. Junkyard trick
