Well lets see, in 1972 I bought my Sprint brand new for around $2500. Three years ago It needed some body work and paint. $24,000 later, it has a new paint job. At least I'm in good company.
Yea I recall an instance where he gave Ward his car for a wax job but then said what hell just paint it while you are at it.
Just have a look at my thread on my distributor and fuel pump problem, didn't know about eiother of those things until i had a new flexplate installed, I wsa thinking last night how my Dad took me to car shows, and I'd see signs... "You toucha my car I puncha you face". or " If you value your life as much as I value this car..." comes in clear after all the waiting all the work, all the blood sweat frustration, that goes into making a classic worth the effort. !
I started out by making mine a 'driver', to tool around in. Now, it has classic insurance, and I don't use it much. But, I love the car, and I have no regrets. Hope none of you do.
Never any regrets, just the look I get from my Wife when ever I talk about is worth owning it .. She'll just never get it.
i know one thing.. its catching me too.. i was jsut gonna replace the carb.. now the motor and trans are out awaiting a freshening. jsut wish my pocketbook would catch teh snowball effect too so i can start it.
I bought my 71 2dr as basic transportation when my last car dropped the tranny. then I got hooked, and bad. when i bought the mav, by almost all accounts ('cept mine) it should have been headed for the scrap yard. the interior had been EATEN by mice (soulution=army blanket). the clutch was out (remained that way inspite of 3 replacements until 302/c4 swap). a bad situation. why i decided to LOVE this car i don't know, then again i do. (no one else probably ever did, except for maybe her orig owner 10 yrs deceased when i bought it) Bought a parts car (to change to black interior among other things), restored the interior. made that 200L6 oh so very smooth. still tranny headaches, still #^%#$^$%#^ brakes. bought another parts car (source for 302/c4 bellhouse/frame pieces/disc conversion/5 lug rearend) then built a $$$$ motor and bought a $$$$ tranny. then needed a better radiator, then better tires, now i need 3.80 gears and a locker, still lots of work on the body needed. i don't think it will ever end (and i hope it doesn't)(any girl i hookup with must accept my car and habit with it) I LOVE MY MAV AND WOULDN'T HAVE HER ANY OTHER WAY. (than body magically fixed) just my snowball story
in the... "name your car"... post, i didn't see where anyone had named their car... "snowball"...i guess my next tag will have ..."snowball"...on it...frank...
I havn't a clue as to what your talkin about Terry. I need to go wash the paint off my hands now...
It's going to cost a little more. I was going to buy my cam and lifters from a local cam maker, Reed Cams. They've been around for years and theyr are 10 minutes from my house. I used them in the late '70s. My machine guy said run away from them. He said since the "old man" died a few years ago, their quality has gone to crap. He used them a lot in the '80s and early '90s for custom grinds for the big alcohol burning 460's he built for the trucks used in the tractor pulls and mud bogging races. What Frank Harris says is what I go by when it comes to engines.
Mines only costing 100 bucks................every time I scrape up another $100 I buy more parts..................maybe someday I'll get time to put them all together!
