Since my Morris runs 6.80's 1/8 mile which is about 10.80 1/4 it has the required roll bar and 5 pt harness. The tech guys at all So Cal tracks I have run at (Famoso,Pomona,LACR,Irwindale) enforce the 2 year harness replacement on any car with a roll bar and belts even though a car may not go fast enough to require a roll bar.

So if a car has 5 pt belts,no roll bar and runs slower than 11.49 then the belts don't need to be up to date, right?

back in the 80s i had a 6 point bar in my 12 sec mustang. since it had a roll bar (tho it wasnt required) i had to have the harness & it had to be recert every 2 years. last i heard all nhra div 1 was that way, but maybe has changed. simple way to be sure of compliance is to just do the 2 yr recert. i use m&r. i think recert is $49.

i have a 6 pt roll bar, and have run 11.81. according to ben wilson, the NHRA div.7 tech inspector, i do not have to get my belts recertified. if i ran faster than 11.49 then i would have to. also if a car has no roll bar than the 5 point is not a legal seat belt for it anyway.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'm safe if I can stay above 11.49
Shouldn't be a problem, but I'm not really sure what the car will do as I've made lots of changes nad it's been 2 years since I've run it.

don if you run in super pro and you run between 11.49 and the low cut off of 11.99 your car has to meet all of the requirement of 11.49 or quicker

i don't run in superpro. i run sportsman at both firebird and soutwestern. low et for sportsman is 12.0 except at the et finals when they allow you a .10 and can dial 11.90. if i ran in a class where the other cars were faster than me i would want all the safety equipment that the faster cars have. sportsman has a lot of street cars and division 7 has recognized that it makes no sense for me to have to replace a 5 pt. set of belts (say 3 years old), when the guy next to me in his ss396 camaro is also running low 12's and has a set of stock 40 year old belts.:)p.s. if i ran super pro i'd also want a fire suit just in case the 7 second dragster coming at me at 180 mph decided to cross lanes.

I run superpro and was just letting some of the other poeple know that not all 11.49 to 11.99 car will be able to run out dated belts in div 7. you need to check what class you will be running and check with the track you will be at

if i see ben wilson at tucson this weekend i'll ask him and see what he says. i know that each track also can make their own rules. that's why i asked about it before going to bakersfield last year.:)

i talked to dennis sheepstra (Division 7 tech inspector) at the track last night and he said you don't need to recertify your belts if you run 11.50 or slower. however, there is a stipulation in the rulebook that also says if you run superpro you have to be legal for 11.49 or better so therefore in superpro you have to recertify your belts and have a roll bar if you want to run that class. :)
