So I noticed shackles are frowned upon here. No problem, I don't really admire them showing anyway. So... I want my Comets ass up in the air. I like it that way. How about instead of shackles I use higher arched leaf springs? Would that give me the same effect? JC Whitney sells them but not for my car.
leaf springs just take yours to a spring shop and have them arched a bit ,that will give the ass end of your car up for a rear mount 2gates
Sorry Paintank, but that WAS funny!!! Anyway, that look went out of style back in the 70's and it hasn't come back yet.
For one thing, it's the wrong way to do it. If you want the rear higher than the front, you need to lower the front slightly, and put slightly taller tires on the back. Why would anyone want to do something to a car that's gonna make it handle poorly, brake poorly, point the headlights at the ground, and generally look stupid?...
Cause I like it and I need no other reason. The same way some people see a Model A and can't imagine chopping the top, I can't imagine NOT modding this car. The one I had as a youth was during a time when I had little funds to do anything to it past a Roadgear deck. This one will be fun time for me. I like huge wide tires in back and small ones up front sitting on Cragars or slotted mags. I hate the look of a lowered car and when the tires are tucked under the rear fenders it looks retarded to me. That is why I will never have a tubbed car, I don't like the stance. I prefer jacked up cars. I also prefer skyjacked 4x4 trucks and gasser straight axle fronts. I like 4x4 converted cars. I like sidepipes and Go Wings, I like T/A scoops and shaker hoods. I like fog lights in the grill and window louvers and hood tachs. I like flames and strobe stripes. I like front and rear spoilers as well as fender flares and blowers with bug catcher scoops with red butterflys. I like chrome on EVERYTHING. To keep this car original was never an option to me. It was always going to be modded and will probably never be done. This car is my toy as well as my daily driver. I am no purist. On a side note, the 8 track went today. Replaced with a $5 Audiovox tape deck from the flea market. It looks great and works fine. Now I have room for the floor shifter.
No one ever said anything about "keeping the car original", but hacking it up like a hillbilly is just plain ignorant. 'Retarded"?? See the above statement... I do commend you on getting rid of the 8-track though. I also like the rear wing. I have the same one on my '83 Trans Am...
I guess J.C. Whitney just stopped selling leaf springs for our cars. I could swear someone on here got a set in the last year. The re-arching of the springs is the best method if you have a good spring shop near you. Also a good time to detail some things and install new bushings. Dan
to each there own have fun man ,giver S*&t,i dont want this thread going bad ,and remember OPINIONS ARE LIKE AZZ HOLES EVERY BODIES GOT ONE 2GATES
I hate the prostreet look. Huge tire tucked under the tail end looks just as weird to me as the jacked rear does to you maybe. And whats this about a hillbilly? I'm in NC friend, I prefer Hellbilly! I found that spoiler on the side of the road after an accident. I have no idea what it came off of originally. I guessed Mustang or Probe but who knows. Looks good I think. I needed a new decklid anyway so I took mine off and installed the spoiler. Speaking of Rednecking my car up, check out my homemade wire shelving grille! You gotta do with what you got.
well paint... you like this you like that you like this you like that. I don't like a lot of your ideas but I sure like you for doing what you want and not giving a uhhhhhh ....well.... about what anybody thinks. Good for you!!! http://www.espo.com/ go to this site. we bought a set of 4 leaf springs. they are stiffer than the 3 leaf that comes with the car. also they do give you some lift in the rear. you can always ask them to put in an extra inch of arch if you want. we are well pleased with ours. about 130 dollars delivered. yeah the raise in back may hurt your handling a bit. use stiff shocks all around. we use FIREHAWK tires. kinda soft rubber and they bite into the road great!
Cool. I don't need a slot car, just something to drive around in and make noise with. Maybe lay some stripes in front of the Ricer guys downtown. My front tires are 195-60/R15 Toyo Ultimas and the backs are 225-70/R15 Kelly Chargers. The shackles are a little overkill at 4" but my leafs were droopy so I had to do something and $24 was easier than $250 at the time. The Kellys were almost scrubbing so I lifted the rear a bit. A lot. I installed the shackle solution on an 80 model T/A I had and it helped immensely before the left leaf snapped in half. I adjusted the headlight angle to point more upward to compensate, fogs too. So I suppose the bear fur seat covers are out of the question?
