I have done everything to prepare for the motor pull. I am at the last few steps and need a hand. I took the half circle torque converter cover off (it only had two bolts holding it). I have a C4 302. The book I have says to place a white mark on the torque converter but their picture is different from what I see in my MAV. This is where I get lost. What do I do next? I still have the bolts on the bell housing to take off. But maybe one of you can give me a step by step from the removal of this half circle torque converter cover. Your help is appreciated. This book also says that when I take the bolts out of the engine mounts to pry the bellhousing from the motor. I dont see the need for this. I think it will come up as soon as I raise the stand. Let me know.

If you are going to re-use the converter/flexplate just mark them both at one of the bolts so it goes in the way it came out.Dab paint on flexplate dab paint on converter in same location and then pull the bolts. As for the bell housing you will have to knock it loose from the engine to get it off the dowl/locator pins that line the block and trans up.As long as the trams mount is out and the drive shaft is out it will come apart when you pry them apart.

I think they want you to mark the convertor to align it up with the flexplate the same way when you put it back in.
Anyway, from here you need to remove the 4 nuts that hold the flexplate and torque converter tgether. You will need to turn the engine by hand to get access to all of the nuts (one at a time) and them hold it in place to loosen them. I use a prybar in between the flexplate gear and bellhousing usually. After you get them out, then you can pull the bolts from the bellhousing. You usually need to use a prybar to get the tranny and engine apart, but not always. Hope this helps

    harmonic damper bolt

The previous gent sent me a message to turn this bolt so the converter will turn to allow me to get all the bolts out. Where do I find the harmonic damper bolt so I can turn it. Thanks

I usually take the engine and tranny as a pair.
I believe most others here agree based on previous posts like this.

It beats dealing with the TC and bell bolts under the car.
Just plug the tailshaft of the tranny so you don't spill the fluid.

Its the 15/16" bolt in the front end of the crankshaft. There should be one more 1/2" headed bolt on the driver side that will need to be removed, above the inspection plate that you have already removed, that goes through the block plate into the bell housing. You will also need to take shifter pivot stud out of the bottom rear driver side of the block, if it is column shift.

Front of crankshaft (bottom pulley when you took fan belts off) in middle of pulley the big bolt will be! Turn clockwise so as not to loosen it up Mind pulling fuzz out now, bolt 15/16 or 1 1/16 socket. Pull spark plugs out makes for easier turn of engine over

Bump it over with the starter. Don't forget to take the starter out afterwards.

15/16 socket, short extension and a breaker bar. easyest is to have some one else turn it for you while you lay underneath and loosen the 9/16 nuts. like ray said pull the plugs out and it will turn easier. also if it dosen't want to come out make double sure there are no more bolts attached.:)

I just used the Torque convrter nuts to turn the engine over and "loocked" it in place with a screw driver when we needed to take off the TC nuts

When you put it back together some TC have a drain plug, make sure it's lined up with the hole in the flex plate. Could be why they said to mark it.
