I think the only way a 4-door would look even close to decent is with the top cut down about 4" and the body slammed to the ground with low profile tires, even though that is not my style, and why I own a 2-door.

To me, THAT is what you do with 4-doors if you want them to look anything other than a granny car.

My apologies to those few guys who have made their 4-doors look good without this, and there are only 2-4 of you out there.

Didn't some guy chop the top off one and post pics a while back...

i have a '76 4 door comet on my driveway that looks just flat out magnificent. nice lines, and a sharp style. i also have a 2 door in the garage, and i actually feel the same about it as well. these are sharp little cars, 2 or 4 doors. from a distance, and mind you my eyes aint what they used to be, the 4 door can pass as a 2 door.. hopefully the umm cough, cough, other age challenged will help me here.:tiphat:

actually, i wouldnt sell it, ive sold alotta cars and later only regretted not havin em. do what ya gotta do to fit your personal situation. but gone is sometimes really gone.

come on scooper, there are are few of us with enough imagination to make the 4 doors look good.it definately takes a love of the cars shape and some creativity to bring out the lost muscle in it.
and yes, there was a chopped 4 door at the round up. white with funky exaust.
on another note (off my soapbox) i do really like to build four doors but in my opinion that one is way to far gone to be a candidate. all the doors would need repaired and as far as i know, no one makes 4 door skins. there is probably alot of rust not visible. finding 4 rust free doors would be expensive to find and ship. even tho i had $15000 plus in mine i still could not begin to get anything over $5000 if i were to sell it. there is no market for 4 door cars yet.
if your heart isn't in this car. let it go and save for what you want.you will be happier in the long run.

I'm going to end up holding onto it and getting the hang of mavericks so I have a little experience before I go mucking around in a 2 door. Sometimes I just get so mad at it....But if I threw in the towel every time I get mad I guess I wouldn't be married, huh? :rofl2:

Thanks. Good idea. I'm going to check the gallery. I always thought it would be cool to suicide the back doors.

I'll second the idea of keeping it, driving it and searching out a solid 2 door. This could be your winter driver ultimately.

Use that car up and when it is too far gone keep the good parts for your build, or sell them to someone who needs them.

Don't invest a lot of money in it, but still, you will have a unique car that you aren't afraid to drive.

You can hone your skills and learn a lot of specifics about the car. Learn to do welding and bodywork, and if you make a mess of it, not such a big deal.

If you want to paint it on the ultra cheap, there have been surprisingly-good results using Rustoleum and a paint roller. Before everyone starts calling me "Joe Dirt" here, check it out. Car Craft Magazine painted an early Falcon this way for less than $100. Roll a coat of paint on, sand it smooth, roll one more on, sand again. By the time they hit four coats, they were starting to laugh about how good it looked. I have seen a discussion board online with a lot of guys showing off their work, and the cars look pretty good as daily drivers.

...and no, I am not planning on painting mine this way. I'll probably spend at least $200 painting mine ... :rofl2:
