I am saving for parts for the maverick. I have an 86 302 and a 77 302. I am not sure what block to use. I am putting on Gt40 heads, roller rockers, cam with about .500 lift, hooker 6901 headers and edelbrock performer rpm intake. I am also going to get a hughes converter with 2400 stall and 3.80 gears and powertrax. I am hoping to run a high 8 in the 1/8 mile. Am I being realistic or expecting to much? If things go well I will be able to order all my parts in about 2 weeks. I will get slicks later. I know I need them

    8's should be gravy.

    I went in the 7's with a 306, 4.56 gears and 8 inch slicks.

Traction bars and good tires should help out a lot also.:)

I got traction bars on the 72 grabber body. I will put them on my car.

Is this a street car also. If not,you can also take the rear seat out and move the battery to the trunk. If you do though you'll also need a shut off switch.

    I'm thinking low 8s as long as the car halfway "works".My 75 4dr ran 8.80s w/ported E7 heads,B303 camStealth/holley 700,Hedmans & 2.25" exhaust,3500 stall & 3.55s.Weighed 3350 w/driver.

are the pistons in the 86 stock?

if not you need new pistons because the stock 84's thru 93's dont have reliefs for the valves. the max you can run with a cam on stock pistons i think is way smaller than what you will run if i remember right.

Only the '86 had a true flattop, the rest had valve reliefs.I'm running a B303(480 lift) in an '86 shortblock/E7 heads w/ no clearance issues.
