Mike IMO the best thing to do is look for a set of good used aftermarket heads......even with the stock roller cam you will be happy.....still maybe a stretch for the allowed budget....good luck:Handshake

For $300? save your money untill you are ready to spend more.
That is not a flame just some advice. If you don't want to hear that then a performance chip and a larger mass air flow sensor - but it may be more than the money you have.

PaulS gave good advice. However, it sounds like that money is burning a hole in your pocket and you do have to start somewhere on the upgrades. If you don't already have one, go and ahead and get a cold air kit. That will add a little more air to the engine to get a little more efficiency out of the long tube headers.

Sir Mavowar (cough, cough, choke, choke:D ), er, uh, I mean Lance gave good advice about the heads. To get a set like he's referring to, you'll need around $650 (or more) and some luck. You definitely want to eyeball 'em or have someone you trust look 'em over before you lay down the folding money.

Like the old saying goes, "Horsepower costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

Hi, right now can you get all the power you have to the ground? If you can't then look at some traction bars, shock, frame connectors and springs. I would get the frame connector frist. You will feel them.

Is your motor an H.O. or just a 5.0? Your ECU is an OBD I system so it is a little cheaper, for that price range you could start out with a chip

It will be an improvement over stock but it will not be utilized correctly until you upgrade other components also. Like your MAF sensor and it will really help if you upgrade your cam and heads.

forget the engine, upgrade the brakes and tranny. Seriously, why would you want more power if the car itself can't handle it? You won't take it to the track, but having reliable brakes can save your car and yourself giving you more time to save money to spend on the engine. Just an opinion.
