they were off a dartblock 302 bored out to a 347 with AFR heads he said i could reverse them and run them to the front he had a javelin that he did this to
No offense taken. Wannabe...just because they will fit on the motor doesn't mean that they will fit in between the shock towers and over the crossmember/motormounts/oil filter. They still have to be made for the Mavericks narrow shock towers. In my research the closest thing that I could fit in between the towers backwards were the stock manifolds. I moved my shock towers out and made my own headers for the turbo.
if you WANNNA correct me on this....do you really think that i cant modify parts of my car or the headers to work????? I have a set of Hooker 6901s that i can weld a turbo flange to that will work if these dont. and if those dont work i can make some headers out of pipeing
88400 shorties. The right side header will fit if it's turned around backwards and installed on the LH side. Dont' know what to do about the other side. The LH header will not fit backwards on the RH side of the engine (tried that)...at least not without modifying it. I had mine set up with a home-made log on the LH and and a unmodified RH 88400 shorty on the right side, crossover pipe under the motor and running to the turbo which was mounted just inside the LH fenderwell. But because the cheapie hedmans are thin mild steel, they don't last long with the heat that a turbo header generally is subjected to (up to 1600-1800 deg for a good length of time where most NA engines won't exceed 12-1400). Expect them to be red after a hard run. You don't realize how small the maverick/comet front end really is until you start doing a turbo swap! It's TINY even with a little 302! This is why you don't see many people swapping in a turbo. Not enough room to do it, at least not like a Mustang anyway.
Anything can be done given enough time, money and skill. As a matter of fact you can look at my earlier posts, I've been working on mine for two years. Maybe I'm just not talented enough...give it a shot, you have nothing to lose.
Well....My bud that is building an RX7 with a 350 turbo set up is buiding his own headers....if you wanna talk about a long complicated process try that. we spent 2 hours just testing and trying different ways that will accomodate....at the end i said screw it and run zoomies out the top and have the turbo sticking out of the hood for fresh air and to keep it cool. but i would never do that to my maverick. imma have a front mount intercooler just in the lower infront of the radiator
Yes, I know the problem. I built my own headers and just to fit a 1 5/8 pipe between the shock towers and the motor, I had to move the towers out.
well with enough pumbing you could put the turbo (s) to the rear of the car, haven't done it but have seriously thought on it. they have kits out there. i havent taken the time to do more research... until i have the cash to do it, that is.
i have seen a camero with a rear turbo set up, the lag on it is worse because of the distance between the turbo and the intake. the oil line has to be ran even farther. it has its pros and cons. but a maverick witha rear mount turbo???? intercooler piping, coolant lines, new flanges, and being different from every other joe with a turbo....might be worth it the extra trouble to be different
The rear turbo kits are fairly common kits... I seen them put one on a corvette on Horsepower TV or something once
yeah but how many have you personally seen? i saw 4 1 was on a 2005 1500 chevy 1 on a 2002 camero 1 on a c5 corvette 1 on a ford ranger never on a maverick
