Besides alignment, can anyone think of a reason my fan belt keeps coming off once I pass 6000rpm ? Last weekend it came off, jammed into the space between the balancer and the water pump and SHATTERED the water pump pulley! Thanks, Scott
if ur running the correct belt, and it's not too loose.... then the pullies almost have to be out of alignment
Right size belt, sits down in pulley. I borrowed an alignment light from a neighbor and it lined up well. I have tried several belts but maybe that is the problem. I will try another belt. Txs
I never had the problem of throwing the belts, Mine would actually BURN the belt in too. I tried many different kinds and the two i found that worked the best were the cheap Napa line, Which they no longer make. The only belt i find now are the Advance TOP COG, They are the only SOLID belts i can find. They work good but have to be tensioned 2 to 3 times before they finally take a set.
You mean a LARGER crank pulley ? I did order a new water pump pulley (since mine is in 2 pieces!) it is pretty old and could have some run out in it. I did not think of that.
No comment What kinda light are you saying you used? The damper is good? I have run cheapie belts to 7k...
Is all the hardware mounts solid the belt runs and has no 'give'. At 6000, the belt tries to climb out of the grooves if it slips, gets hot and gets more sticky besides the belt streching enough. This can 'spring' the mountings enough to make it once and done and all looks well after the fact. Once a belt jumps it usually has permant damage to the cord structure.
