A question for the experts.... I recently bought a 70 Mav that is 5 lug all the way around. It is a factory 200ci/3-speed auto car. It has never been modified from stock (as far as I can tell). It has original paint, interior, engine, and trans. When I bought it, it had the standard 14" steel wheels with the Maverick hub caps. It seems odd that someone would replace the entire rear end and front suspension with a 5-lug setup and then put the steel wheels and hubcaps back on it. Is there any chance the car from the factory this way, or is it impossible to have a 70 with factory 5-lugs? Please experts, educate a Mav novice....
i agree with Craig. no mav in '70 had 5 lugs. even in 71 and 72 you had to have the V8 option for 5 lugs...
OK, it sounds like that question has been answered. I'm surprised someone went to the effort to put 5-lugs all the way around and then put steel wheels and hubcaps back on it. Either way, it works out in my favor for sure. Now I don't have to source all of the parts myself Thank you to everyone that replied to my post. I appreciate the info.
They may have had different wheels on it. Then took them off and put the stock ones back on to sell the car.
my 71 6 was factory 5 lug, maybe it just depends on the plant or something? as for putting steel back on, he may have been more worried about the braking power than the rims. the 9 inch drums are noticeably weaker than the already weak 10" drums. Of course if i went through the trouble it would have had disc front
not true, but on rare occasions there have been 71-72 250 6cyl cars with 5 lugs yup, it was the biggest option for the mav in '70
