is this a saftey issue?

is this a bad idea? saftey wise? i had a power port (cig lighter without the lighter) put in a while back and it has a in line fuse. to get my back lights for my guages to work i have to take the inline fuse out an put the light wires in there and put the fuse back in. so would it be a good idea to do the same thing with my memory wire for a new stereo? thanks

 

Won't be a problem. Very little draw. However, for future use pick up a box of these guys. Very handy critters.

 

as long as the wires are on the side of the fuse that looses power when the fuse blows

Electrical connection. Put the wires in and crimp down on it. Makes a good connection. alo it is reusable so you can pull the wires out.
Can find at Ace, Home Depot, Loews and a lot of other places.

i power my gauge lights from that same circuit! but i soldered mine onto a new connector and plugged that back onto the fuse line

 

wiring problems....

 

Not aviation grade but Ive never had issues with em.

 

i have had lots of problems with those, some where other people had spliced in trailer lights on the pickup and one in a house where it was used to splice all the outlets to the switched one. that's why i solder them now....

 

Very Handy Critters

I have also had problems with these. I won't use them anymore. I have had problems w\ those making good connection even when closing w\ pliers. And yes, I was using them on the correct gauge wire.
Also, I wud go so far as to say never use them on a circuit that make ur car run, ign. etc. JMO

 

Those circuit clips are the worst thing to happen to automotive electronics. If you have ever found an old one on a car you bought you know what I'm talking about. You should solder and shrink wrap everything if you don't want to worry about it.

 

I have to agree. We see lots of rotten wires with those clips. They shouldnt be used on components that see weather. I dont use them even in the car just because you dont know how good the connection is. We dont like come backs so everything gets solder and heat shrink.
You should see what road salt does to those. Cant believe guys up here use them on trailer harnesses with our weather but lots do. Its all good though cause I get paid to cut it all off and solder it down the road.

 

yea i've had many problems with those and butt connectors too. any bit of weather and the whole wire gets cancer. solder and heat shrink is the way to go. solder doesn't take too much longer anyhow
