when i put my rocker arms on my e7 heads, 2 of them were loose after i torqued them. i have tried other rocker arms, switching rocker arms, the whole setup, i checked the lifters to look for wear, compaired the pushrods. What the heck? now i have a ticking sound, its nice and tight meaning it wont shake up and down but from side to side, any ideas?

I have craploads of those shims in various sizes, if you need some.

The way mine work is you torque them down to a certain torque range, and you should have gone from 12 to 4-6 o'clock with your torque wrench by the time you hit the torque range, and this provides the appropriate preload. Then you use these shims if you aren't in your range. I only had to use the shims on 2 or 3 of the rockers, so I have about 60 of them left. So if you get to the point where you need some, let me know.

You could also maybe try lash caps and then shim up to fill in the space. If you don't want to grind any. Lash caps cost me about $16 for the set. I think they were 1/16" thick.

Just tossing ideas out there...not sure what will work for you in the end.

Did you check your push rod length?

Sounds like the pushrods are too short, which is why I suggested the lash caps.

I had to do this on my new cam. The exhaust was cut on a smaller base circle. I didn't know this until I got it all together and I could never set preload. It just flopped a little no matter how tight I got them.

I measured how much slack there was compared to the intakes, and ended up buying a set of 8 Comp lash caps (#621-16 at .080" thickness, just looked it up so whatever number I gave earlier is incorrect. JEGS has them for $35 for the set of 16, I bought mine from local engine builder for 8 for $15). These overcame the smaller base circle perfectly, and they were preloaded as originally instructed.

The correct way to fix this is buying new pushrods, but price them real quick and see why I went with lash caps. Yes, pushrods are fairly cheap, but price a set that is just a little off, like by .080"...:yup:

Standard length pushrods are about $3 each new. But when you start to add or subtract factions of inches they easily get 3&4 times more expensive. That was why i went with lash caps.

You need to check the length of your push rods, don't just go changing them, you'll cause yourself more problems.

I've found, that E7TE heads, on some non-roller blocks, need different a pushrod length, that the stock heads...I'm close to the exact measurement, but close isn't good enough.
