What is the Hardest Part to Remove on a Maverick

    Since I figgered out the wiper motor was the first thing they put on the assembly line and the car was then built around it just reverse the assembly process till you get to the wiper motor, the added advantage is at this point you will be half way thru a complete restoration! :)

    Changing the Heater motor was a pain for me.
    Having to remove all of that plastic venting from under the dash to reach it in the first place without breaking any pins had me sweating. And then as it turns out a previous owner may have already changed the heater motor once before. Bolting it on BOTH sides of the firewall. The hardest part though was removing the fan from the motor. After however many years near the heater the fan sort of melted it's self to the shaft. It took my dad and I 2 hours to remove it without snapping any peices off, and the blades on that fan were like razors, our finders were hamburger where we got finished. With it being -20 celcius out side certanly made matters worse.

    Also, fidning the blinker fuses were a pain for a sucker as tall as me. I didn't know I could rotate my head at the angles I had to to even see the damn thing.

    I don't think there are any REALLY hard parts.....

    ... but I'd proffer that the intake manifold on my I-6 is a bee-yatch to remove... ha ha

    I'll admit to swearing on occasion when a wrench slips and falls once too often, and I've lost the skin off several knuckles with the Comets (nothing that a quick smoke and some loud Led Zeppelin couldn't heal); but so far they've been a dream to work on. Even the plugs on my V-8 car only took an hour.

    I sold my Chevy Astro van because every "minor repair" took 4 hours (2 hours for the plugs - and doing THAT removed skin clear up to my elbows). Good riddance.

    Admittedly some things take a lot of time to remove and fix but that's the best part of these cars - the parts can be dismantled and are usually FIXABLE and don't cost $1000 every time you pop the hood to do something.

    As for putting parts BACK ON I would say the front hood - trying to do it alone and re-align the bugger without scratching everything I had just painted. I had straightened the brackets and they didn't go back in the same spot.

    I went ahead and pulled the tray because I was going to be drilling a hole under the dash for a Sport Lamp Switch and didn't feel comfortable with the drill chuck spinning that close to the package tray. I’m glad I did because when the bit grabbed the second layer of metal it tried to snatched the drill out of my hand.

    fuse box

    i tore out all the wires from the from the front of the car. wow supper easy!
    then came the hard part! the fuse box was mounted over the sterr colm
    behind the fresh air duct. spring bolt loaded. with no room to swing a wrench.
    if you dont own swivel gear wrench's, you wil find new colorful words!

    the astro van and s10s have one bad plug to remove next to the steering column......I got a secret to gettin it out.....:)

    I havent tinkered with the innards of my Maverick enough to know whats worse, but I do know the worse thing that Ive removed was the tension bar in the trunk lid...I had to remove it for some reason....cant remember...I never got it back on :rofl2:

    The hardest thing Ive ever removed in all cars? The rear passenger spark plug on a '83 Cutlass Supreme

    The plug under the A/C compressor is what whooped me on a S10 4 cyl

    Funny story about that... Surprisingly, it doesn't hurt that much, even with an MSD module! It wasn't down my pants though, but let's just say I was ground...

    YES, spark plugs, (DRIVER-SIDE with 302) PITA....... almost took it to have it done the first time.... and if you drop it get a new one...
