What is the part number for a Duraspark distributor that suits my needs?
It is a 302 roller block with Comp Hydro roller cam, and Holley carb, c4 trans, stock converter and 3:00 rear gear. No EFI, just a carb.
I know it should have a steel gear and single vacuum advance diaphram.
I've done some searching on Napa on line for one from a 85 and 86 Mustang GT and come up with different part numbers. I'm starting to get confused.
I know I'm not the first one to buy a distributor... Which one do you guys get?
    Thanks.

You need to get a non-tfi one if your using a carb.

So an 86-95 will not work....

and 79-84 have a cast gear...

    *EDITED*

    85 will work.

I did some more searching and i was wrong...85 is the only year that has the steel gear.

be sure to get: NAPA # NRD 482831

    1985 Ford Mustang
    Engines : 5.0 L 302 CID V8

Thanks. That is one of the numbers I came up with also.

Where is a good place on line to buy a distributor?

Ok its been awhile since I did mine so I looked up my sales slip. I bought my rebuilt from Car Quest 2/24/06 and the stock # 30-2831 was for a 85 Mustang manual trans. The 85 auto was EFI, the manual was carb and I was told thats the only year that will work, it has a steel gear and will not tear up your cam gear. Thats why you are finding two dif part #'s. Mine cost $50 with a core & just the gear out of summit was $55? Good Luck I hope they still stock them!!

Ditto, 85 Mustang GT with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION is the only application that has the steel cam gear along with the non TFI Duraspark. The auotmatic GT's had a flat tappet cam & TBI injection, so you do not want that one. The 86's had SEFI injection with the TFI distributor.

The steel gears are smooth all over. The cast gears are rough on the non-machined surfaces

im doing the efi to carb V8 swap, i got this distributor from autozone, but im have a hard time finding the correct CAP AND ROTOR kit. the msd that i got was wider and requires an adapter.

where can i find a whole kit or does anyone have the correct part number?

you can get the adaptor at the parts store. it will work with the msd or stock cap and rotor. just ask for the cap adaptor for the 85 mustang distributor your geting.
