Just bought my red 77 Maverick a week ago. I was looking for a new project after selling my 68 Mercury Cougar (My first car. I had it for 20 years. Couldn't bring myself to redo it again. Sniffle.), a 70 F100 that was a neat old work truck, and a little motorcycle. The Maverick's in pretty good shape for an Iowa car. It's a 200 six with a 3 speed on the column. I'm going to enjoy it through the summer and decide whether I want to put in the 302 and 5 speed I pulled from the Cougar. The six is in really good condition. I didn't have any doubts about the swap though until I had so much fun driving it the way it is. I'm glad to be part of the forums. I can't imagine having lots to contribute, but I'm looking forward to combing through past and present postings for information.
I live in Des Moines and spent about two weeks living out of one of the Burlington High Schools (Greyhounds?) back in 2008 during the floods. I'm in the National Guard and we were down there doing a ton of sand bagging along the Mississippi and some powerplants. Neat little town. Post some pictures of your new Maverick
Welcome to the World! Where did you find your 77'? Just wondering if you bought the one around here for sale. Good Luck!
lpolson07, thanks for your help with the flooding. I did some sandbagging north of town. The Guard was there, too. Some of those guys were flinging sandbags like they were newspapers. It was a bit harder for me but still rewarding to be helping out.
I bought the maverick that was on ebay awhile back. It was located outside of Wapello. Nice fellow owned it. It has a bit more than 55,000 miles. He drove it into Burlington every day to work for several years. He bought it with around 19000 miles on it. He said he would get 26 mph driving from Wapello to Burlington. He stopped when he notice rust forming behind the rear wheels. The paint's cracked a bit and has a ton of rock chips from his driveway and probably following the gravel trucks on 99. I'll be posting some pictures soon.
Not a problem, it was an important time for everyone that was able to help out to do so. We were treated with respect and gratitude to nearly everyone we came into contact with.
