Yeh, i would never attempt an efi swap. Something is eather wrong with the drivers side head (which i should have took off) or the dissy is screwed up. Im not in a hurry to find out which one it is so its 4 cylinder mustang time. Still backfiring through the carb ut its alot leass now, i can rev to 3 grand without backfire! Idles fine. Timing is spot on. and compression is 140 to 150.

Justin, is the motor the original 74 motor?? If it is you might want to check the guides. I have seen that problem quite often over the past 30 + years with 73 to 77 302's. Cyl's 4 and 5 seem to wear guides and at low rpm's they run fine but valves start moving as rpm's increase which in turn creates popping thruogh carb. The weak points of the 302 are guides in 4 and 5 and rear main rattle at cold start. It is almost impossible to detect with comp test unless guide is real bad. Good luck.
