Generally when there are several plants building the same models, vehicles are DSO to the closest areas...Sooo if it's the rust belt, well the chances of survival aren't nearly as good as say at KC...

Gimme a few days & I'll be posting picts of my '72 Comet LDO, converted to GT(still in progress)... It was cjtorinoman's, so VIN is already on file...

80% of the St.Thomas production was meant for the USA, and since Comets were only built in Kansas until Dearborn started production in 73, it wouldn't be as uncommon as you think. Plus each plant had it's own distinct VIN.
Plus, cars didn't necessarily come off the line sequentially.

Whether they were Comets or Mavericks isn't relevant, I was just replying to Jeff S post that '72 ST cars had a poor survival rate... Even with 80% US destined, not much doubt in my mind that most of those wound up in the rust belt of MN, WI, MI, OH, PA, NY, MA etc, while cars from KC most often were shipped into the southern states... Also there were only two '72 Dearborn cars listed as well, while there are several KC builds on the list... Likely much of the Dearborn production met a similar fate to ST...

I saw same when I kept the 428 Fairlane Registry and dealt with cars from Lorain OH, Atlanta GA, Kansas City(BTW they shut down Torino & Fairlane production in early March '69 to change over to Maverick & of course later, Comet production), and in San Jose CA.... Torino & Fairlanes from Lorain almost always went to the northern states and were very often in poor condition in comparison cars from the other three plants... Lorain did have the distinction of building all the Comet/Cyclone/Montego production as well as being the only plant to build Ford & Merc intermediate convertibles, those were DSO to the entire US and Canada...
