I started to, but couldn't keep up with it. I'm taking plenty of pictures along the way so hopefully when I'm done the pics will tell the story!

I do particularly with this one. I have a goal/budget I'm hell bent on meeting. I did the same with the bike when I did my mods on it. I account for un-used items I sell from it too.

I never did this until I got married, it helps justify bringing a junker home for a few parts when you can show you sold enough to pay for it.

I research parts and tech articles/forums and work on my Grabber and Comet GT to get away from paperwork.

    No log.

I keep a parts list of all the parts I buy.
I don't track the costs - they change too much but if I modify something then I always have the ability to get the same part later.

I log all the parts, settings and vendors in case I need to replace or adjust something. But I NEVER log the costs. It would only depress me and this hobby is supposed to be fun!

My brother has been keeping excellent records of all the parts he's had to buy for my car. I just wish my checkbook could keep up with him. He has also kept track of his labor (hours) he has spent on the car over the last two years. We were just talking about it the other night and he has logged over 2,100 hours working on my car over the past two years. I also have a pile of receipts that I have yet to organize. When it's all done I'll throw it all into a spreadsheet. When I bought the car about three years ago I had a number in my head of how much it was going to cost me to restore it, I've already exceeded that number. I knew this was going to be a labor of love and was not going to be some investment that I would make money on. I would never recoup all of the money I had into the car. I also have no intention of selling it, it will probably just be passed on to one of my nephews. Then they will probably turn around and sell it as soon as the grass starts to grow over my cemetary plot. You can't put a price on the sheer enjoyment of reliving your childhood, taking it to car shows and watching the reactions of everyone looking at your "baby". I was talking to my wife last night about how much money I had into the car and how much I still had to pay out for the interior and to my brother for the labor. IF LOOKS COULD KILL!!! No seriously she has been very supportive of my project just a tad bit shocked as to how much money goes into these things.:coco:
