For the Folks who have had their car totally stripped down, Did you put a new repro.firewall insulation pad back in? If not...what did you use or did you just leave it out?

Dave, does it keep the engine noise and heat out of the car fairly well?

Insulation can be for heat or noise.. Low frequency noise is hard to block an the most dense material is the best. Unfortunately, that material is lead, and it is heavy. Engine rooms on boats use 1" Mylar/Foam/lead sheets, available from West Marine, contact cemented in place. Dyna Mat is a name brand Jay Leno endorses so you will pay up the wazoo, there are cheaper versions, same thing..Fat Mat is one. Household construction barriers are available generically they are the same as dyno mat. They are very dense plastic, yet nowhere as effective as lead/foam/mylar. Anechoic sound chambers where space is not a concern use cone shaped foam to absorb sound. I tried a paintable ceramic barrier called Noxudal, and used it on the insides of the doors and floor too! It is brushed on an needs to be 1/4" thick. Two layers of Fat/Dyno Mat is pretty cool...time consuming whatever way you go! Anything is 80% better than nothing, and I will chase that extra 20% at great expense :)
p.s. do your wheel wells, the road noise is what kills.

Works very well. I think it's well worth the money, I know there are knock offs, but usually you get what you pay for.

That's what I like about you Craig. I don't mean this as an insult but, I think like you. I "try" to reuse or fix what I have. It makes me feel good to reuse something that was otherwise useless. That's what I like about old cars that have been sitting around for years dorment, bringing them back to life.:burnout:

I just got 2 packages of Eastwoods thermocouple last week. Be a while before I get to use it. But it was about 1/2 the price of Dynamat. Weighed 51 pounds in the box. Glad there was free shipping.:)

Do this similar insulations have written specs on the product so that Eastwood and Dynamat could be compared with one another? I'm all for saving money but also don't mind paying a higher price for a product that delivers more. :)

Hahahah, have you seen Craig's car? If it wasn't perfect, he wouldn't have used it.

Eastwood's Thermo-coustic is fairly new, but if it's anything like some of the other products Eastwood has, it should be pretty good.

Thanks for the links, Dave (y)

I looked at the Eastwood material and 1 of their kits covers 36 sq ft.

Is this enough to do a 2 door Maverick floor and firewall and, if not, how much does it take? :)

I used 2 boxes, but I did everything, the wheel wells, the roof, the firewall, cowl, everything I could.
    This is about half way:

Dave I have a question for you....

What benefits did you get using the Dynamat? I know this may seem like an obvious question. But I am looking for specifics. I will assume you saw a huge benefit with road noise and sound. But what about heat coming from the firewall? Engine compartment etc, etc.?

On my 47 when I had the interior redone two years ago I sprayed the whole inside with Lizard Skin. I liked it, I think it helped. But not to the level I was hoping for at all. Both for sound and heat. So for the Maverick I am looking to try something else.
