Bought another Chevy

    I'd sell the dang thing is what I'd do but since you already have another 350 I'd put that in it and sell it

    I figured for $800 something was about to let go on it, but you never know

    I gave $600 for it. I could probably sell it for $800 without ANY engine though. That's the only reason I bought it, know I can make my money back and then some regardless.

    Thinking about just tossing both the Chevy's up on craigslist for like $2,000 as-is for both including the misc. parts and the one good engine. I just don't care about them, I bought them to drive and use, not for more projects. I'm not a Chevy person. Especially when I've got my super solid bumpside F250 that I've owned since I was 14 years old languishing away. If I want to put money and effort into a truck, that's the one I should be worrying about, not these damn old Chevy's. I've got enough parts collected to build it into one heck of a truck, just need an engine.

    Sorry I thought you said $800 for it... either way, you don't have a lot in it.

    I hear you on the bumpside.. I picked up a 74 not long ago w/ a blew up 390 in it. It had a good factory 428 intake on it that I sold for 1/2 of what I paid for the truck.
    Put the 390 I had built a while back in it, and scrapped the rest of the engine for part of the money back. I have around 200 in the truck minus normal wear/tear items like brakes and things.

    I enjoy driving it over my Suburban any day of the week.

    '89 5.0 H.O. totally rebuilt 15k ago, F303 cam, ported E7's and Performer 302 intake. Probably not the best for a pickup truck with that cam in it, but I'm sure it'll get down the road just fine and it'll sound good doing it! :D

    Trans I believe is a C5? It came out of a '78 F150 and was living happily behind a pretty stout 351W. Has 1980 part numbers all over it, pan fill and has an H on the servo cover, whatever that means. Should be fine in this truck that will see mostly just cruising around, minimal towing. I've got one of those B&M deep sump cast aluminum pans and a big trans cooler kicking around I'll toss on it to help keep it cool.

    Got a little work to do to make everything fit. Make frame mounts, have the driveshaft shortened, etc. But it'll be up and running within 2-3 weeks.

    Now thats the way to fix a chevy :)

    Love the truck, I honestly would have been hunting for an LS1 though for that truck........ We got an old chevy thats on the list for a transplant but its way at the bottom of the list LOL I just hate working on anything with a bowtie

    I'm a Ford guy, to me this is an easier and quicker swap then hunting down something like that and trying to swap it in. I just don't have much luck with Chevy drive trains it seems.

    Went and picked up the 70's F150 engine mounts I ordered today, and dropped the two piece drive shaft off at a shop in Marietta to be shortened 4 1/4 inches, rebalanced, and have a new carrier bearing and U joints installed. Also determined a '67-'72 Ford pickup speedometer cable threads right onto the Chevy speedometer just like it was made for it and works fine, so good to go there.

    Supposed to get the drive shaft back tomorrow or Monday, then can start on getting the engine mounted. Plan right now is to use the 70's F150 engine mounts, and frame stands I have laying around from a '68 F100, then just see where it falls in relation to the front suspension cross member and do whatever is needed to secure it all down.. going to use a Maverick C4 trans mount and drill new holes in the trans crossmember. Then just a matter of getting the trans shift linkage hooked up, swapping temp and oil pressure sensor and hooking some wires and hoses up.

    Hey Jamie,

    If you don't mind my asking, what'd you give for the engine? My dad and I have been looking for a factory unmolested 302 to swap out the 3.8 V6 on our '86 LTD II Wagon. Can't seem to find one around here with all the parts needed to swap it, unless you want to buy an entire car.

    My brother gave $700 for the engine for a car he was going to build, then changed his mind. I don't have much in it myself, just wheeled and dealed and traded him some stuff for it.

    Just keep an eye on craigslist.. they're all over the place around here.
