I'm really excited about this because we're gonna try to tackle it ourselves. I have a full tank of gas in the MIG welder and all the parts, we're gonna get started on it tomorrow am.

Here is what I had before, my stock system sounds great but I'm sure is a little restrictive. The mufflers sound great though. The reason for the upgrade is because I got a pretty nasty leak at the header which is making it very embarrassing to drive the car around.

Here is my stock setup now:

    Some stock long tube headers.

I got the 6901 to my door for $170 and it came with some bolts and gaskets which I won't be using.

They aren't coated. Locally it was going to cost us $200 to get them coated. We have a friend who says he can get us a hookup but I think he is out of the country and I am in a rush to get these on.

For $140 to the door I got these flowtech x-pipe 3" (#53631). It's a pretty good deal for what we have intended.

I got the exhaust gasket for $30 which is a metal multilayer gasket by Mr Gasket (#4824G)

worried about restrictions and put those oe type replacement mufflers on there?

You can get a summit brand "flowmaster" for less the 30.00 each.

ive got a 3" X pipe on my car that kit should do you well.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, but I think from his statement "for now" he may be upgrading really soon just can't stand the exhaust leak anymore and funds for project at a low. < been there done that LOL

Are you going to run the exhaust out from under the car, or dump it underneath?

My comment here would be that dumping under the car, or even pipes coming out from under the car, placed before the rear wheels, will make things very noisy inside.

Flowmasters or just about anything considered "performance" will make huge drone inside the car, especially with 3" pipes. I did it for a while on my 75, but I kept a pair of Thrush Hush Turbos spare. Every now and again, I got sick of the head pounding drone, and would throw the Thrush spares on for a while, until I craved the noise again. It got old sometimes.

I suppose that the use of 3" pipes means you are looking for best flow possible?

Flowmasters are better than stock, and can sound good, but Dynomax Race Bullets are cheaper, and they flow same as open pipe. Just a thought.

If exhaust drone is a concern of yours after the new system here is some good reading on the subject from the corral.
    http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=496793

I am trying to fix the same problem on my mustang by mixing exhaust tail pipes size in hopes of the rpm drone range moving a little lower.

    My current setup is 1 5/8 headers/2.5 mandrel x pipe/ 2.5 flow tubes/ twin 2.5 dynomax bullets/ 2.5 turndowns.

Currently love the way it sounds, just a terrible drone around 2 -2200ish. Thankfully its not my freeway cruise rpm, but around town in 5th or 4th gear is unbearable. I pay more attention to gear selection vs rpm range than I do anything else driving on cross streets. So I end up shifting alot inbetween 3rd and 4th, so motor is either screaming like I looking to race or in 4th making it unbearable to try and have a conversation in the car.

And I have plenty of torque that low and its perfectly fine driving in that range, its just unbearable drone wise. So I think fixing my drone will help out alot with gas mileage and comfort of driving making that lower rpm range useable again.

The big help with drone is getting tailpipes ran out of the back of the car.
    (Unless it's a hatchback car)
